Cad Artist: Do You Have What It Takes?

Computer aided drafting and designing is a specialist area of designing which requires the designer to visualize a model or design of the intended object and create a blueprint digitally.  Hand drawing is out and CAD drawing is IN...

Hand drawing is nice if you need to do a quick sketch with a client or quickly need to sketch a concept, but CAD designing is the way forward in the fashion industry.

A CAD artist may design models for ships, aircrafts, skyscrapers, buildings, small containers and bottles, and even animation and special effects used in movies / TV /advertisements etc. However, a CAD designer usually specializes in a particular field.

A CAD artist is required to have great mental capabilities for visualization, creating models, angles, dimensions, first in the mind, and then digitally.  CAD artists are also involved in the drafting stage - so materials, resources etc are also their concern, before the design is actually reproduced.

CAD artist in the Fashion Industry.  It is used typically to assist in the design process. CAD allows designs to be even more detailed making it easier to ensure that designs are flowing together in a collection.  It also lets the fashion designer view different designs, colours, and different patterns on different models.  It makes design process more sophisticated and can be used in place of regular designing methods such as drawing and can be used to see a design, fabric, and colour all at once before producing the product.

It assists Merchandisers, pattern makers and seamstresses to visually see the correct styling, contrast areas, closure etc

CAD designing makes the design process quicker allowing the designer to make changes to an idea.
Today computer Aided design is a part of the qualifications for a fashion designer. It has also had an impact on the way designers conduct business. It Gives the designer more flexibility in the area of colour and change on a product.

CAD Designers are responsible for creating seasonal prints, pattern and embroidery work (florals, stripes, plaids, repeats, placement prints etc) for use in all product categories from concept to pre-production. CAD designers collaborate with Merchandising teams to keep prints and patterns fresh and ahead of the competition. CAD Designers are highly creative, passionate about the brand and customer,  they have a great sense of style, a strong eye for trend and colour, and possess strong communication and organization skills.

I love being able to CAD, definitely a neat skill to have, you really can make your designs come to life, more interesting, more realistic, more creative by using many of the tools in the Design programs like Photoshop, illustrator or Coral Draw.

Below is a few CAD examples that i have done.  Please do not copy,  these are for reference only.

With Winter officially here, it’s time to stock up on those must have winter essentials including coats! There’s no easier way to dress up an outfit than by throwing on a stylish longline coat, leather jacket or an easy-to-wear parka.

However if you were having trouble deciding which coats and jackets purchase this A/W 2014, we’ve selected our top must haves for the upcoming cooler seasons from ASOS and Shopbop.

The Bomber Jacket:
Channel your inner sporty style with a bomber jacket. Looks fabulous teamed with leather leggings, sneakers and a basic tee.

The Relaxed Trench:
Add a girlie touch to your work or weekend outfit by teaming a pastel, white or black relaxed trench coat over a pussy-tie blouse and tapered pants, or with ripped jeans and a contrasting animal print tee.

The Parka:
Wear a casual parka in khaki with light denim and black ankle boots. Add a statement printed scarf and casual boots for the perfect weekend look!

The Animal Print Jacket:
Make a statement in animal print by teaming with leather and classic pumps. Add a pair of killer sunglasses and a must-have structured tote.

The Leather Jacket:
Add instant rock chic glamour with a leather coat this A/W 2014. One of my favourites. A leather jacket looks great with a white tee and light denim, or worn with clashing prints and a bold lip.

The Over-sized Blazer:
The over-sized blazer is all about adding structure with a masculine touch. Wear to the office with a crisp white shirt and a midi pencil skirt, or a pair of boyfriend jeans for the weekend.

The Longline Coat:
Worn by all the street style stars and celebrities this season, a longline coat is your A/W 2014 must have. Looks great with a matching midi skirt and long sleeved crop top combo, or when worn with tartan, leather and prints.

The Grey Wrap Coat:
It’s all about grey! Break up a black and white outfit with a grey wrap around coat. Works great with patent boots, light denim and leather.

The Trench:
Nothing is more classic and sophisticated than a trench coat. Wear in navy blue, beige, white or black for the ultimate classy look. We love teaming a trench with black wet look jeans and boots, or seen over a white blouse and structured pants.

Parka Coats & Ways To Rock The Hot Winter Fashion Trend

I’ve wanted an olive green parka for the longest time. i love the jacket and how easy it is to style it.  In some places of the world the parka is no trend but a staple to your winter wardrobe, and I agree, everyone needs a Parka.

The parka jackets are excellent cover ups for the cold winter days and Every woman likes a practical garment, that’s why i will speak about parkas.

This outerwear piece is a type of coat with or without hood, which is lined with fur or fake fur.  A parka is a trendy, windproof jacket with a hood that is designed to be worn in cold weather. Some types of parkas are heavy, winter coats and other types are light enough to wear on windy or rainy days.

The parka has gotten a seriously chic makeover — and that’s just one of the reasons why we love this look! Not only does it have an effortlessly cool, model-off-duty vibe, but a lot of these jackets are insanely warm, making them the most practical choice for the season. Now days you will find lots of beautiful styles, starting from oversize cotton-canvas and merino wool-blend parkas, coyote-trimmed cotton-twill parkas, raccoon and shearling-trimmed felt parkas, rabbit-lined cotton-twill parkas, tiger jungle-print cotton-blend twill parkas, leather-trimmed wool-blend parka, coyote-trimmed satin-twill parka and other ones.  Although the weather is getting warmer, it’s never a bad idea to invest in this fashion must-have.

Simply layer the look over a sweater and jeans and throw on booties and you’re ready for a casual weekend — and you’ll stay warm, too! There’s nothing fashionable about not being prepared for the weather. A hooded option is my favorite, just because you never have to worry about getting stuck in the rain or snow. Even when it’s sunny out, it’s important to cover your head in the winter if you want to stay warm.

If you love the look but don’t need a heavy jacket, than opt for a lighter version. You can easily rock the trend during the fall and spring with a lighter jacket — not everyone needs to prepare for the snow!

Parkas can look very sexy indeed. Especially when worn with something unexpected, like an LBD or a cocktail dress.

Coat trends come and go, but a classic parka will see you through many seasons to come. For long-lasting durability, invest in a parka from a heritage brand, choosing a style and shade that won’t date easily.

See below street style for your styling inspiration!
