Pantone's Spring 2016 colour report

Pantone just released their spring 2016 colour report, you’ll want to wear all of their selected shades (maybe even in one outfit). The colours are bright but still manage to perfectly embody that ease and pastel vibe that’s always associated with spring. Scroll on down to check out the ten colours they think will be big in the coming months.

Rose Quartz: PANTONE 13-1520 This tone, which Pantone describes as soothing and “persuasive yet gentle” is a cool shade that’ll work flawlessly from spring to summer. Rose Quartz reminds us to reflect on our surroundings during the busy but lighthearted spring and summer months.  This is one of the selected Pantone’s colour of year 2016.

Peach Echo: PANTONE 16-1548 Think of Peach Echo as Rose Quartz’s crazy cousin. This colour has the same blushy undertone but is definitely bolder and slightly more orange.

SerenityPANTONE 15-3919 Weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us.  Serenity is A transcendent blue, Cool and clean, this soft shade will work great on everything from a flowing midi skirt to a structured crop top.  This is one of the selected Pantone’s colour of year 2016.

Snorkel BluePANTONE 19-4049 This maritime-inspired shade definitely falls in the navy family but with a happier, more energetic context, than the standard version of the colour. It is striking yet still, with lots of activity bursting from its undertones.  We’re guessing this is one colour we’ll be seeing a lot of come red carpet season.

Buttercup: PANTONE 12-0752 Forget that mustard yellow you’ve been seeing for years. This brighter alternative offers a little bit more vibrancy and life without being too over the top.  Buttercup, is transporting its wearer to a happier, sunnier place.

Limpet ShellPANTONE 13-4810  This shade of aqua, which borders on the green family, is clear, clean and defined. This crisp colour would look great on some structured trousers or maybe even an anorak-style spring jacket.

Lilac GreyPANTONE 16-3905 Is it purple or is it grey? It’s neither and both at the same time. Essentially a basic, the subtlety of the lilac undertone.  Looks like we just found our new favourite neutral.

FiestaPANTONE 17-1564 If you’re ready to amp up the drama, rocking this shade is a sure-fire way to do it. A strong and fiery, yellow-based Red, the vivid Fiesta provides a stark contrast to the calming, softer nature of this season’s palette.

Iced CoffeePANTONE 15-1040 If you’re ready for another alternative neutral, look to this soft shade of brown. With its natural earthy quality, the softness and subtlety of Iced Coffee creates a stable foundation when combined with the rest of this season’s palette.

Green FlashPANTONE 15-0146 Similar to chartreuse, this bold shade of green is definitely vibrant, it calls on its wearer to explore, push the envelope and escape the mundane.  Pantone says " The popularity of this brilliant hue is representative of nature’s persistent influence even in urban environments, a trend continuing to inspire designers."

Pantone’s 2016 Colour Of The Year

ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY

PANTONE 13-1520 & PANTONE 15-3919

For the first time, colour authority Pantone announced not one but two colours of the year, "Rose Quartz" and "Serenity.  Predicting that next year’s retail clothing racks, paint cans and furniture showrooms will be heavy on shades of Rose Quartz and Serenity, they are shades of pale pink and baby blue.

Rose Quartz (colour swatch 13-1520,) just-the-side-of-dusky shade of pink and Serenity (colour swatch 15-3919) a click or two darker than baby blue, are set to share the honors for the upcoming year.

The company’s announcement, is an annual event that is closely watched by the design and fashion industry as the tipoff to a trend that usually spreads through home décor, fashion and design for several years. It tends to unleash a cascade of announcements from retailers revealing their own products in the colours.

Rose Quartz - a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of compusure.  Like a serene sunet, flushed cheeks or budding flowers, Rose Quartz reminds us to reflect on our surroundings during the busy but lighthearted spring and summer months.

Serenity - Weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us.  Serenity comforts with a calming effect, bringing a feeling of respite even in turbulent times.
A transcendent blue, Serenity provides us with a naturally connected sense of space.

I was lucky enough to design my nephews baby shower invitation.  My sister in law had done his nursery room in the owl theme, so in keeping with the theme i did the invitations and prediction card.  Here is an example of the invitation I created.

HOW TO WEAR FRINGE THIS SPRING / SUMMER

I’m so glad fringe is trendy right now — it’s so pretty, and can add so much style to an outfit. It has proven to be particularly popular on the runways and the streets and it appears to be enjoying a bit of a come back in 2015.  There is fringing in all shapes and forms from the classic boho inspired leather and suede jackets to the flapper-inspired dresses complete with fringe hems. You can find fringes on maxi skirts to dresses, to accessories, tops and even shoes.  This trend can actually be tricky to pull off, and there is a fine-line between looking stylish and costumey, and too thick can look a bit too western.

If you aren't so big on this trend, you can start small.   Accessories are a more conservative way to wear this trend, without sacrificing your level of comfort.  e.g a fringed handbag (it is the easiest of them all, you can carry a fringe bag all day long.  Rock it with a casual dress or add a casual spin to a more formal outfit), or fringed pair of shoes or sandals or by pairing your fringe piece with anything modern or minimalist.   It is an incredible way to add a little texture and spunk to your look.

A biker jacket which features a line of fringe under the arms or across the back is a simple way to work this trend that is still so wearable.  A fringe skirt is another simple way to give this look a go, and it become easier to wear when teamed with a classic shirt and simple accessories - let the skirt be the focal point of the ensemble.  This season there are so many fringe options on offer that you're bound to find a fringe style to suit your personal style and will go well with other items in your wardrobe.

What I love most about fringe is that you can be a little minimal or pile it on. To help inspire you, here’s a roundup of the trendiest fringe on the web, to get you wearing them it with confidence.
